The head rest forces the head into a sustained - immovable position which doesn't allow for subtle, non-observant, off-loading movements - much like the older "Bobble-head" figurines we used to see on car dashboards.

Subaru is not the only automotive company that poorly designs car seats. The Crosstrek 2025 design is poorly received, overall, and Subaru has no plans on redesigning it. The Outback's car seat design is far superior. Interestingly enough was when I test drove it, you don't spend more than 10 minutes in that car, going only around the block. I could go on and on but bottom line, avoid this car.
As a physical therapist, it is critical that car ergonomis be perfect. Bottom line: go with a higher end model to ensure a more well-designed car seat for physical health and wellbeing for your back. Your back with be greatly thankful!!
Also - I begged Subaru to help me with a change out and they just wouldn't. They just didn't care. I drove it off the lot and the dealer and Subaru would not consider my physical health wellbeing. There a lot of aftermarket attempts to mechanically alter the seat in some manner to help decrease the impending back pain that follows. I choose not to attempt any car seat adjustments aa I plan to trade it in ASAP, at 2 years and 6 months.
One of the main problems with the seat is your femur is not supported, distally and so your thigh bone "hangs" off the seat. The Outback model has a small ledge that pulls out to accommodate the thigh bone. So that tells me that Subaru knows the design is terrible but does nothing to help customers with the back problems that begin once you spend more than 20 minutes i the Crosstrek car seat.

Patient's commonly believe that the neuromuscular pain is originating from the low back. This is most often not the case.

The relationship of the pelvis to the vertebral column, with all the surrounding tissues, becomes unbalanced and aligned improperly.

Most commonly attribute the problem to the "Hip Flexors" and this is part of the problem. Most often though the pain comes from the misalignment of the skeletal bones and causes the imbalance of complimentary, co-contractor muscles.

The QLs muscles, responsible for maintaining a level pelvis and hike the hip while walking whereby most people have never heard of them. The Gluteus Medius muscles are responsible for stabilizing the pelvis as well as ensure the vertebral column maintains a healthy lumbosacral rhythm while moving.

The Glueus Medius Muscles are not primarily responsible for hip extension, as the Gluteus Maximus Muscles are, and co-contract with the Hamstring muscle group to ensure proper and healthy hip extension. The Gluteus Medius Muscles are so crucial to pelvic alignment and stability, they are considered a set of postural muscles that co-contract with the Erector Spinea muscles, and the tonic back muscles, which are responsible for good posture.
Hence, the combined muscle groups of the QLs muscles and the Gluteus Medius Muscles work synergistically to ensure a strong and secure Pelvis, Sacrum, and Vertebral Column. ββββnLong explanation shortened means these set of muscles become the first set of muscles which react to misalignment because the pelvis and vertebral column work off what is known as a "Lumbosacral Rhythm", much like a rollercoaster.
